Gangland killing: CCTV emerges, Mahmoud Brownie Ahmad shot in Greenacre

Publish date: 2024-06-14

Chilling CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a figure at the centre of Sydney’s gangland wars was gunned down.

Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad, 39, was shot and killed when he left a friend’s Greenacre home at 9.30pm on April 27, 2022.

In the video, the former crime boss can be seen outside his home in the quiet Greenacre street as a white Porsche slowly drives past.

Quick flashes of light can be seen as a gunman unloads a barrage of bullets in the direction of Ahmad before the driver flees.

Ahmad was shot multiple times, he was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

He had been visiting an associate when he was killed.

A burnt-out car connected to the shooting was found a short distance away.

Taskforce Erebus have released the video in the hopes it will encourage people who may have been in the area to speak with police.

“We have several pieces of information which have come through to us, but detectives are still working through what happened that Wednesday night,” Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

“While we have canvassed the area and spoken to a number of neighbours, there are still people who are yet to come forward and assist us with our inquiries.

Four men have been charged in relation to the murder of the Sydney gang boss, though there has been no update since the last arrest in December.

Police have also released a series of images of burned our cars in the hopes it may encourage more people to come forward.

Strike Force Betta was established after Ahmad’s death to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

They are working alongside Taskforce Erebus who are closing in on a series of fatal shootings linked to organised crime networks across Sydney.

“Taskforce Erebus investigators are examining all elements of these murders – before, during, and after the fact,” Superintendent Doherty said.

Police are urging anyone who believes they have crucial information to speak to police.
