One of golf’s rising stars, Bryson DeChambeau is also at the forefront of the sport’s evolution. Is DeChambeau married?

Bryson DeChambeau is not married and has mostly kept his love life private. Model Sophia Phalen Bertolini posted a photo of them together at the 2018 US Open but it is unclear whether or not they are still dating, or if DeChambeau is dating anybody else.

For more on Bryson DeChambeau’s golf career and what we know about his personal life, read on.

Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson James Aldrich DeChambeau was born in Modesto, California on September 16, 1993. He is the son of John DeChambeau and Janet Druffel.

When Bryson was seven, the family relocated to Clovis, California, near to Fresno. DeChambeau began golfing at an early age and distinguished himself as a strong amateur prospect in his teens.

At 16, he won the 2010 California State Junior Championship. In 2012, he was offered a scholarship by Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he majored in physics.

While at SMU, DeChambeau became the first student from the college to win the NCAA individual championship, winning by one stroke.

A few months later, he won the US Amateur title, making him only the fifth player to win both the NCAA and US Amateur crowns in the same year. The others to accomplish this feat were Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Ryan Moore, placing DeChambeau in esteemed company.

PGA Tour

In June 2015, DeChambeau began competing on the PGA Tour as an amateur. In 2016, SMU was banned from the NCAA postseason, meaning he would be unable to defend his title.

DeChambeau decided to skip his senior season, instead opting to play some more events as an amateur before turning professional. He grabbed worldwide attention at the 2016 Masters with his traditional, Ben Hogan style flat cap and excellent performance, tying for 21st place overall.

The Masters performance confirmed that DeChambeau was ready to turn professional and he did so in April 2016. His first prize money came days later when he placed fourth at the RBC Heritage, winning more than $259,000 in the process.

DeChambeau was the subject of controversy in 2020 when he added about 40 pounds of muscle mass before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. He quickly established himself as one of the consistent longest drivers on the PGA Tour, leading to calls for harsher restrictions on golf equipment to limit distance.

Training to add greater distance is not a quality unique to DeChambeau. Gary Player popularised weightlifting in golf in the 1960s and Tiger Woods’ power in the 1990s led to many PGA Tour courses lengthening their holes in a process nicknamed “Tiger-proofing”

As of mid-2020, DeChambeau had earned more than $18,000,000 in prize money and won six PGA Tour events.

Sophia Phalen Bertolami

DeChambeau seems happy to keep his love life private but there have long been rumors of him dating Sophia Phalen Bertolami. Bertolami is a model who collaborated with La Isla to create a line of “large cup” bikinis.

She graduated from Chapman University in California, majoring in Kinesiology and Nutrition. She then enrolled at Belmont University in Nashville, studying pharmacology as a nursing student.

Bertolami adopted a piglet, believing that it was a mini pig, but the pig, Stella, eventually grew to 1100 pounds. Sophia posted a photo of the two together, providing a sense of scale and highlighting just how enormous Stella actually is.

In 2018, she shared photos of her and DeChambeau together at the US Open, essentially confirming the rumors, but as of 2020, it’s unclear whether or not they’re still together.

As DeChambeau has not reappeared on Bertolami’s social media, it isn’t clear whether or not he’s dating anybody. Given his busy golf and workout schedules, he might have decided to focus on the PGA Tour for a while.
