Aaron Ramsdale's family have been told to stay out of the drama surrounding the Arsenal goalkeeper as he isn't a child.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has insisted his dad shouldn't have bit back at Jamie Carragher, who mocked Ramsdale's reaction to a save David Raya made during the north London derby.

Ramsdale's father, Nick, took exception to the comments, branding Carragher a 'disgrace' after he admitted to laughing at Ramsdale for applauding David Raya's wonder save to deny Brennan Johnson.

Carragher claimed that the England international was playing up for the cameras after losing his place in the starting XI to the Spaniard.

He has since stated that his 'Oscars' jibe was nothing more than a light-hearted quip during his recent appearance on The Overlap.

Discussing Ramsdale's dad's reaction, the 2005 Champions League winner said: "It was a joke! I will never say anything back and in some ways I admire it.

"My son plays and it is completely different to being a fan or a pundit."

And now his ex-Liverpool teammate Murphy has had his say on the matter, telling talkSPORT's White and Jordan show: "Ramsdale is doing the right thing by supporting the team."

Murphy continued: "But Carra's right, Carra's absolutely right.

"Because if you're a footballer, sitting on the bench, at any football club in any country in the world, not looking at the player playing instead of them wanting them to do badly, he's in the wrong job.

"He can be pleased for him because he likes him, but deep down, he'll want to be back in the team."

Murphy then stated that Ramsdale's dad should have stayed quiet, remarking: "Carra's right. Look, Carra's wording, I was laughing at it, because he knows, he's been there, he's played, he gets it.

"Do you know what? Too many people's mums and dads are coming out on social media. What the hell is going on in the world?

"He's not 12! He's a big boy Ramsdale! He's a great goalkeeper Ramsdale. Maybe the world's gone mad.

"When I was playing at Liverpool with the lads, if my mum or dad - we didn't have social media - but if they did, oh my God I would get absolutely annihilated.

"He's not 12! He's a man. People's parents coming out on social media, get a grip of yourselves, let your boy show some resilience, he's made it to the Premier League, he's an England goalkeeper.

"He doesn't need his dad defending him on Twitter like some sort of schoolboy."
