TRAVELERS are set to pay an automatic fee as JetBlue has added a surcharge for checking sports items.

JetBlue customers will be charged $100 for its sports equipment fee.

This includes items like bicycles, surfboards, windsurf boards, and kitesurf boards.

Each sports item will be charged a fee on both domestic and international flights.

Additionally, each item has specific regulations travelers must follow.

Just note that the only way to avoid the $100 surcharge is by making sure the items you bring don’t fall under the sports equipment category.

However, customers could be charged a different fee for oversized or overweight bags like golf clubs.

Below, The U.S. Sun details the exact guidelines for the sports equipment fee.

BICYCLES

Travelers will pay $100 for bringing a bicycle as a checked item.

In order to check them, the bicycles must be placed in a hard-sided, padded case designed for bicycles.

Bikes will also be accepted with the handlebars secured sideways and pedals removed if travelers don't have a hard case.

Additionally, all bikes must also be encased in plastic foam, a cardboard box, or similar material to prevent damage.

SURFBOARDS

Domestic travelers are only able to bring one surfboard per case except items weighing over one hundred pounds as that will not be accepted as checked baggage.

It's suggested that surfboards travel in a hard-sided case to prevent any potential damage.

Be sure to check JetBlue for any differing international policies.

WINDSURF BOARDS

Much like surfboards, JetBlue only accepts one windsurfing board with an aluminum or similar type material wishbone style boom, one mast with a maximum length of 15 feet, and one sail.

Items that weigh over one hundred pounds are not considered checked baggage.

KITESURF BOARDS

JetBlue says that kite surfing and windsurfing boards are accepted buy only when properly packed to prevent damage to the board, sail, boom, and other related equipment.

These count as one bag of the included baggage allowance and are excluded from the size limitations.
